Lowering Blood Pressure

Garlic

Garlic is one of those home remedy staples. It is rich in beneficial constituents that address a wide range of ailments, once of which happens to be hypertension. Several studies have demonstrated blood pressure lowering effects of garlic. Both raw and cooked garlic help control high blood pressure and at the same time reduce cholesterol levels. Garlic helps relax blood vessels by stimulating the production of nitric oxide and hydrogen sulfide

  • Eat one or two crushed garlic cloves daily. You can simply crush them with your hands. Crushing garlic cloves creates hydrogen sulfide, a compound that promotes good blood flow, removes gas and reduces the pressure on the heart. If you do not like eating raw garlic or if it causes a burning sensation, then take it along with a cup of milk.
  • You can also mix five or six drops of garlic juice in four teaspoons of water and take it twice a day.

Basil

Basil is a delicious herb that goes well in a variety of foods. It is originally native to Iran, India, and other tropical regions of Asia, but now it is widely available throughout the world. Basil has antioxidant, antimutagenic, antitumorigenic, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. It also helps lower your blood pressure. Extract of basil has been shown to lower blood pressure. Adding fresh basil to your diet is easy and certainly can’t hurt. Keep a small pot of the herb in your kitchen garden and add the fresh leaves to pastas, soups, salads, and casseroles.

Onion juice

The key bioactive compound in onion is a flavonoid called quercetin. Studies suggest that quercetin helps in reducing the high blood pressure level by inhibiting production of a compound called angiotensin II that induces constriction of blood vessels. Hence, onion juice is considered an effective home remedy for high blood pressure.
To reduce your blood pressure level naturally you will need about 730mg of quercetin, which you can get from the juice extracted from seven small onions or about 3 ½ cups of chopped onions.
Drink onion juice once or twice a day. To reduce the pungency, consider adding a teaspoon of honey to the juice.
